No the 611 number isn't free to call. And it won't work if your phone is out of air time.

That's the issue here. I have it too. Ever since I had to do my yearly eval I have had issues with getting my mins. I had to go through the automated *** too but I was able to get my stuff straitened out.

I usually get my mins about midnight on the 1st maybe at the latest about 5am in the morning of the 2nd of each month. And right now I'm still waiting. I did the self help thing like the 555 in the prepaid add airtime section of my phone and now its saying no pending updates.

If I had the money to get a real cell phone I would have by now. This service is becoming a real pain but I'm stuck with it because I can't afford any alternative.

I understand being broke, OP. If you have the direct express card (from SSI/SSD) and still have $11 on it, you can go to tracfone.com and purchase a 30 minute card for $10+tax. You will actually receive 100 minutes on your safelink phone this way.

AND your name isn't Matt. I have NEVER talked to anyone from SafeLink Wireless that doesn't have an foreign accent and a fake name.

First off, complaining about free is pretty lame. Second off, if you know how to use google, you could have found this answer on your own. However, below is step-by-step instructions on how to retrieve your safelink minutes without having to call their *** customer service line.

SELF-RETRIEVAL AND ADDING AIRTIME

You may retrieve your Monthly Minutes by following these instructions:

Press the MENU key.

"Prepaid" will be displayed across your screen.

Press OK or SELECT. Go to "Redeem Airtime" or โ€œAdd Airtime." Press OK or SELECT. If your screen displays a message, go down and press OK until you see โ€œCard #โ€ or โ€œAirtime PIN.โ€ Enter 555 and press OK. If you are prompted for a promo code, press NO. You will receive your Minutes shortly.

First of all a lot of people in this program can't afford phone service any other way, that's why their in this program. Second of all this program is not free the government pays these companies for the service they provide to people who otherwise would not have any phone service.

Also sometimes the prepaid menu disappears and you can't retrieve your minutes as described above. This leaves you with no other choice but to call customer service which is really bad. It often times takes 2 or more hours to get thru the automated prompts to reach a live person. After spending all this time trying to get a live person you get a person who doesn't know what they are doing and another 1/2 - 1 hour waiting for a supervisor to help you.

By the time you've spoken to a supervisor and just maybe your issue gets resolved you've been on the phone for 3 or more hours. I don't know about you, but I'm a very busy person and don't have this kind of time every month to spend getting the minutes that have already been PAID FOR. Thirdly, not all people have a computer and/or internet service.

Someone this person knows may have posted this for this person as a favor. So get off your high horse and pray things never get so bad that this is the ONLY WAY to have phone service.
